Powerful SUV hybrid with plug-in option: Peugeot Quartz (brief specs and overview)

Standing on massive wheels with the 23-inch diameter, is a 4.5 by 2.06 meter French crossover prototype, which is expected to be released under such name: Peugeot Quartz. First presented by the Peugeot Company at Paris Motor Show, the car is very likely to enter serial production soon.

#French manufacturers announced that Peugeot Quartz is the world's first car to be built using the digital textile technology - the material used for creating car's components is made from recycled materials, mainly plastic waste.



A precise machine is capable of producing various components and this process eliminates the need for cutting and manufacturing process is carried out without significant amounts of waste. But it should be pointed out that it's not the only significant thing about this prototype.



Peugeot Quartz concept crossover is equipped with a hybrid engine combination, which generates about 500 horses. The 1.6 liter gasoline-powered engine (270hp / 330 Nm), receives extra power from two additional 85kW electric motors (115 hp), which are fitted in the front and the rear (one per axle). Not only do the electric motors give additional power to the main motor but also recharge the 400-volt onboard battery with the help of regenerative braking technology.



The driver of this crossover model has three driving modes to choose from. The electric-only driving mode allows driving up to 50 km using only the battery power, the everyday driving mode allows to extract energy from the gasoline-powered engine and front axle electric motor. Finally, the racing driving option as the name implies, extracts all the power from all three onboard motors and six-step automatic gearbox.



The elements of the front grill of the Quartz are arranged in the checkerboard pattern, which has lead to an interesting visual effect (may be seen, when the viewing angle is changed.



The concept was created on basis of the EMP2 base. The company is planning to use the platform for several new models, there has already been a presentation of the new Peugeot 308, sitting EMP2 platform. The vehicle's air suspension system uses video sensors and satellite navigation to alter the clearance settings.



At the moment everything looks great, but we will have to wait and see when the Quartz will be presented as a serial model.
