Airplane of the Future that Doesn't Need a Runway: Trifan-600 (Photo, Video Review)
The most futuristic ideas about making creating personal air transport sound more realistic thanks to the American aviation concept called Trifan-600. Something that has only been seen in movie and science fiction is here and needs only 50 million in investments to start rolling off the production lines.

Firstly, we recommend checking out the quick overview of this jet prototype in this short video:

Vertical Take-Off Jet Concept of the Future: XTI Trifan 600

Trifan-600 was designed to be the first vertical takeoff and landing airplane and consequently one of the first concept aircrafts, which do not require a runway or an airport.

Thanks to the vertical take-off capability, Trifan-600 could make a good alternative form of city transport, a means transport, which can easily escape from traffic jams.

The engineers from Denver-based company, called XTI developed Trifan-600, as a business jet. The ability to take off and land at paved areas, like a helicopter, is provided by three motors – one static and two movable motors located on the sides of this VTOL aircraft.

During the takeoff all three motors are used to provide sufficient lifting ability, once the plane reaches the desired height, only two side motors continue to work.

The cruising speed of 640 kilometers per hour (397 mph) may be achieved in just 90 seconds. And according to the developers, this VTOL jet can over the range of 1300-1900 km per flight (800-1180 miles) at the altitude of 10.7 thousand meters and carry up to 6 passengers.

Apart from being fast and convenient, this hybrid design of a helicopter and a jet airplane was created with the help of cutting edge technology, which is designed to ensure trouble-free operation.

This plane concept should be a great travel solution for business travel, as TriFan 600 is capable to even land on the roof of a skyscraper. But company has announced the alternative modifications, which may be used for medical transportation and rescue missions.

At the moment the working prototype is being worked on and XTI has announced on the crowd funding platform and US$50 million are required to start production.

If the third-party private investors decide to help this project, we may see airplanes being sold in a year or so but with a price tag of US$10-12 million.
