Most fuel efficient SUV in 2016: Volvo XC90 T8 (specs and review) The final version of Volvo's XC90 crossover, which is known by the addition "T8 Twin Engine" to the original name, has been finally prepared for the shipment into the dealerships around the world. According to Volvo, vehicle specifications make new XC90 T8 the most powerful and environmentally friendly SUV in the world.

Before we continue with this review, please take a quick look at this video presentation of the model:

Hybrid SUV with Best Fuel Economy and Performance: Volvo XC90 T8

While some people may argue with the fact that this SUV is the most powerful in on modern market, the fact about it being environmentally friendly will surely remain undisputed. Volvo representatives claim that the average fuel consumption of this all-new SUV model would be close to 2.1 liters per 100 kilometers (that is 112 miles per gallon).

The levels of CO2 emissions produced by the vehicle will not exceed 49 grams per kilometer. This upgraded hybrid vehicle comes with the plug-in option and can drive up to 43 km (26 miles) in the all-electric mode.

We'd have to agree that such specifications are quite impressive, considering that XC90 T8 is a spacious 7-seat crossover with luxury capabilities. The total power output generated by the engines is equal to 407 hp and the total amount of generated torque is close to 640Nm.

This Volvo model is being powered by the 4-cylinder gasoline engine, which belongs to the Drive-E family and is equipped with a turbocharger. The total power generation is equal to 320hp.

The power of the electric motor is equal to 87 hp but combined with the gasoline power, XC90 T8 crossover is capable of reaching 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) is just 5.6 seconds.

The Twin Engine setup will use as many as five operating modes of the engine duo and the transmission. In the regular driving mode, the vehicle is using the classical scheme, which is similar to those of any other hybrid. Pure Electric mode allows you to drive using only the electric motor.

In the Power Mode all of the components operate with maximal productivity. The "off-road" mode may be selected, when necessary, which will activate the SUV's all-wheel drive capabilities. There's also a Save Mode option, which allows the driver to save the battery life and use it for future driving needs.
