#1. First mechanical calculator – the "Pascaline"

Blaise Pascal being just a teenager started working on his mechanical wonder, which was aimed at helping his father during his work (tax collection). The counting machine Pascaline, which gradually grew into a calculator, could carry out main mathematical operations: addition, multiplication, subtraction and division.

#2. Tactile writing system – Braille

Louis Braille developed a military tactile writing system into his own system of raised dots, which may be used to convey a message. Braille was generally accepted nowadays and is more effective, compared to the system used before Louis’ invention.

#3. Flashlight powered by body heat

A flashlight that doesn’t need batteries - Ann Makosinski's technology allows to transform body heat into energy, which may be applied in various spheres in the nearest future.

#4. Cheap and effective medical test

A new test developed by a 15-year old Jack Andraka turned out to be a faster and cheaper solution for diagnosing pancreatic cancer.
